Filter presses for solid-liquid separation

A filter press separates suspended solids from liquid under pressure, leaving a firm, handleable cake and a clear filtrate. PAM supplies presses built around its own polypropylene plate packs, from a bench-top pilot unit to automatic, high-volume machines.

How a filter press cycle runs

Four stages, repeated batch after batch. The plate pack does the work.

  1. 01

    Feed

Slurry is pumped into the chambers formed between the closed filter plates.

  2. 02

    Filter

The cloth holds back the solids while clear filtrate drains through the plate ports.

  3. 03

    Squeeze or wash

Membrane plates squeeze the cake, or wash water is passed through it, when the process calls for it.

  4. 04

    Discharge

The press opens, the plates shift and the cake drops out, ready for the next cycle.

Filter Press: common questions

What types of filter press does PAM supply?

PAM supplies manual, semi-automatic, automatic high-volume, membrane and pilot filter presses. Builds include zero leakage automatic presses and stainless steel construction.

What is a filter press used for?

A filter press separates solid particles from a liquid. Slurry is pumped into chambers formed between filter plates; the cloth holds back the solids as a cake while clear filtrate drains away.

Which industries use filter presses?

PAM filter presses, plates and accessories serve dyestuff and pigments, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, ceramics and minerals, metallurgy, food and beverages, viscose and fibres, and effluent and wastewater treatment.

Can PAM supply spare plates and parts for a press already in service?

Yes. PAM manufactures polypropylene filter plates from 250 to 2000 mm, plus nozzles, handles, spigots, grommets and cloth pins. Share the plate size and type to get a matching quote.
